Electrical Safety Certificates

Electric Safety Certificates

In 2020 the government is introducing legislation which will require landlords to provide an electrical safety certificate on the day new tenants move into their property.

Currently, landlords who have properties with gas must provide a gas safety certificate before the tenant moves in. The good news is that unlike the gas safety certificate which is only valid for 1 year, the electrical safety certificates will be valid for a period of 5 years.

Here at My City Nest, we suggest you start the process of obtaining this certificate sooner rather than later as we have found that older properties may not meet the minimum requirements immediately and may require some work, to bring the property up to standard. The government is yet to advise us of the exact date when this new legislation will be applicable, however, it will be sometime in 2020. If you don't have a valid certificate or it's due to expire then do speak to our team who would be happy to assist in arranging this for you. The cost of the certificate varies depending on your size of property.
